Why Akumal?
Dive into an incredible adventure in the crystal-clear waters of Akumal, a paradise beach just 30 minutes from Playa del Carmen. Here, sea turtles come close to the reef lagoon to feed on the seagrass, offering a unique opportunity to swim alongside them just steps from the shore. During this experience, you’ll enjoy the beauty of the Mexican Caribbean’s crystal-clear waters while spotting these majestic creatures in their natural habitat.
Akumal is particularly special for sea turtles because it serves as a key nesting and feeding site for them. It’s calm, clear waters and abundant seagrass beds create an ideal feeding environment, as sea turtles rely on these grasses for sustenance. The nearby reef lagoon offers a safe and protected environment for the turtles to come ashore to lay their eggs, especially on the beaches of Akumal. This magical destination is perfect for families, adventure seekers, and nature lovers alike, making it one of the most unforgettable experiences in the Riviera Maya.

Nature first
Despite the growing tourism, we make every effort to ensure the animals are not disturbed and can continue nesting in the area. To protect their natural behavior in the bay, we limit groups to a maximum of 6 people, and chasing or touching the turtles is strictly prohibited. Anyone who does not respect these rules will be asked to return to shore.
